FIBONACCI BRICKS

This project started in 2002 while doing my BA at Danmarks Design Skole and is built upon the mathematical principles of the Golden Ratio and the Fibonacci Sequence.

In the Fibonacci Sequence each number is the sum of the two previous numbers 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21… and so on. The sequence is a naturally occurring pattern that can be seen throughout nature, such as in the branching of trees, the logarithmic spiral of a nautilus shell and in the proportions of the human body.

As the measurements of the bricks follow the sequence, they inevitably share numerous mathematical realtionships and can
be arranged to build a multitude of pleasingly abstract and coherent constructions.

I have made the Fibonacci Bricks in several materials and sizes.
